Title: What are my options for blower fan for my Globe 500C? Post by: ke7trp on April 08, 2009, 02:03:44 AM This one is dead, I have oiled it and tried my best. I think its just time for a new one. I searched around the net and could not find the exact one. Its a small Cage fan that pressurizes the RF deck for the 4-400 final. Any 500C owners out there that found a replacement?
Oh its 117 volt AC Thanks in advance! Clark Title: Re: What are my options for blower fan for my Globe 500C? Post by: K4TLJ on April 08, 2009, 08:40:04 AM McMaster Carr has a selection.

expensive though. Title: Re: What are my options for blower fan for my Globe 500C? Post by: ke7trp on April 08, 2009, 02:01:57 PM There is one that might work. Thanks.. $151 is pricey though... Surplus sales has one for $85 that might work also. Today, I am going to take the factory blower off the RF deck and attempt to pull the bushings out. I found a local bearing house. Maybe I will get lucky. If anyone comes up with something let me know. I will take pictures of it today.

Good luck. mike Title: Re: What are my options for blower fan for my Globe 500C? Post by: W1RKW on April 08, 2009, 04:05:23 PM Clark,
PM me with some pictures of the blower. Include a ruler in the pictures. I think I may have something that might work. Title: Re: What are my options for blower fan for my Globe 500C? Post by: k4kyv on April 08, 2009, 10:36:28 PM I have been running rigs capable of a kw++ for over 45 years, and I have never used a cooling fan. The only exception to that is my converted Gates BC xmtr, but its fan was too noisy. So I rewired it for 120v; it still moves air but makes much less noise. But I added an on/off switch, and rarely turn the fans on.
Convection cooling is cool. Forced air cooling sucks. Title: Re: What are my options for blower fan for my Globe 500C? Post by: N3DRB The Derb on April 08, 2009, 10:50:57 PM some of these hot boxes there's just no way to cool without forced air. My HB rig didnt need a fan because there was lots of empty air around the 812H's, no enclosure at all actually. ::)
other side - I'd never even use a FT101 without the fan even on SSB. Title: Re: What are my options for blower fan for my Globe 500C? Post by: ke7trp on April 09, 2009, 01:12:21 AM I just cant imagine running this rig with its rack mount cabinet and the 4-400 with no fan. I would think the something would go wrong with all that heat. AMfone - Dedicated to Amplitude Modulation on the Amateur Radio Bands
I am using a 4 inch muffin fan with rubber feet on the top of the GLobe running off a Variac. Its keeping it cool until I can get a replacement blower. The stock cage fan is pressurising the bottom of the RF deck and allowing air to run across the Tube seal. Clark |
