Title: 40M MOBILE Post by: WU2D on April 05, 2009, 06:01:42 PM Ok I thought that would wake you up. One way to get some more activity is to get a few 40M mobile stations on the air.
I had my ARC-5 station in the car for a trip to and from northern NY on Thursday evening and again on Saturday morning. This is 6 hours each way meaning up to 10 hours of AM activity! I worked quite a few guys including Timmy on his new Mobile rig which has some loud modulation. I almost had to pull over. Conditions were not great but the NVIS was working with lots of close in stations. I run 15 Watts into a mini Hustler Mag mount. Now imagine a more efficient 40M vertical. You actually do not need much power on 40M to be heard mobile. A crystal controlled 12BY7 into a single 12DQ6 modulated by a pair of 6L6's driven by a 12AU7 and an amplified mobile mic would be a simple approach. The continuous notraffic CARS nets on 7251, 7255 and 7258 owe there existence to SSB mobiles. AMfone - Dedicated to Amplitude Modulation on the Amateur Radio Bands
