Title: Oil filled capacitor Post by: WB2G on January 21, 2009, 01:26:30 PM Just got a free big capacitor,measures 3 1/2 X4 1/2 X9,the label says its a # 10L6K7501 and has a measured cap. of 75.40 uf, also has a serial # 11473-01-01 0112.It doesn't have any manufactor listed,does anyone have any idea what the voltage rating on this might be.Thanks Joe WB2FQD ,Found out this was made by Lumonics a laser firm that is now in Canada under the Lightmachinery name.I did email them and am waiting for an answer .If anyone has worked on these and knows the rating let me know,I don't know if they will reply to a question about old parts.
Title: Re: Oil filled capacitor Post by: WD5JKO on January 22, 2009, 09:54:04 PM I have one here that is a little smaller, 6.75 X 3.5 X 2.25", and it is rated 54 MFD @ 4400vdc Nominal, and 4800 vdc test. If we assume that the interior is utilized in % equally, and the construction method is similar, wouldn't it be possible to make a rough estimate of the voltage rating on your capacitor? Maybe someone more mathematically inclined will step in and make an estimate. 73, Jim WD5JKO Title: Re: Oil filled capacitor Post by: WB2G on January 23, 2009, 02:24:47 AM Jim,Thanks for the info.Comparing the volume of 53 cu.in. to 141 cu.in. you get 144 mfd @4400vdc but since its only 75 mfd it works out to about 8400 vdc which seems high.I'm beginning to think that the 6K in the part # means 6000vdc which is more then enough for a good power supply.I'm still waiting for a reply from them.Thanks again.Joe WB2FQD AMfone - Dedicated to Amplitude Modulation on the Amateur Radio Bands
