Title: Update UR ELMAC
Post by: flintstone mop on November 17, 2008, 07:51:38 PM
There's a very nice article in this month's ER 234 Pg 11 for a complete modern rebuild of the tank circuit in the infamous AF-67 transmitter using a Toroid coil. You'll get rated power from the TX instead of the deficiencies of the original circuit.

Pete,

Ok thanks. I looked, $10 minimum order + shipping and no Pay Pal. I'll pass and figure out the technical details myself while you stack up those ER issues on the shelf.

Jim,

It's not a matter of being stingy, It's copyrighted material.

I don't think there is any intent to profit from the article. Appears to be for personal use only. Copyright laws do not apply.

Same as lending your copy to a friend for personal use.

I just got the issue and read the article.    Why, technically, does this mod produce more output?     I can see why on 160 Meters, where the component values produce not enough loading.    I have a newer AF-67 and it produces full output on all bands except for the 160M deficiency.    I think some of the other problems are with the older models.

Yep, got them all since the beginning. Probably one of the best magazine investments for my amateur interests.

Nah, in ER's case, just logic, common sense, and respect for a fellow amateur's business. Ray spends a lot of time and effort producing a quality publication every month for the vintage radio enthusiast, and he owns everything between its covers. At the very least, permission should be secured, or compensation provided.

As an ARRL member, I have input into all of their current or future activities that I have an interest.

I agree with 3ZS that if it's not broke, don't fix it.
My AF67 needs that mod for sure.
