Title: When you need a hand, try an octopus...
Post by: Ed/KB1HYS on August 16, 2008, 11:15:21 PM
This is an old concept that I had seen a long time ago.  It is very handy, so I posted it here for those who might not know about it.

With a few simple components (filament or other low voltage transformer and some resistors) you can use your O-scope to troubleshoot components in circuit, using Lissajous figures.  Always handy if you are working on old equipment and are reluctant to start desoldering ancient joints etc.

pretty neat tool for real cheap dollars..

Edit ---> original link is dead, so Attached a PDF that is quite good at explaining the construction and use of the tool.  I picked this up years ago, no claim to it as my own work, just really good information.

Try it and see!!!

I'm going to try this out soon, seems like a pretty good way to put to work one of those $3 scopes that occasionally follow ya home from hamfests.
