Post by: John K5PRO on August 14, 2008, 05:25:16 PM
A month ago I posted the advertising for this monster AM rig, 1 kW, 3600 lbs. Quad-pack of 833s. Its in Nashville, as seen in the FS section of this forum.

That's incredible! Twenty three tubes! Thirty six hundred pounds! That has to be a record pounds per watt ratio. Thanks for posting this John. I love it!

Its 'little' brother the 300G weighs in at 1370 lbs for 250 watts out. Some squeeze 300 watts out, but it's still a pretty poor weight/P.O. ratio.

Why don't you grab it, John? It would go well with your other rigs and, as Mike says, it's got lotsa tubes!  ;D

The 300G is close to the overbuilt RA250 that I have. They must have thought that these transmitters were going to start walking out the door. The RA250 is essentially a cabinet within a cabinet. It was a killer box to move around, even with the iron out of it. All of those separate chassis with their own Power supplies really adds to the weight.
The McMartian 1kw or the Gates BC1-H were the boxes for fine memories.

That thing is too big for any space I have. But if I had my way, I would try and get this rig. It is the RF driver for a cyclotron at Brookhaven National Lab on Long Island. I took this photo about 6 years ago there, and it was running around 20-30 MHz. Looks like the HF version of a 20T. Beautiful thang.
