Title: Removal of old Masking tape........
Post by: wa2rqy on June 25, 2008, 11:08:47 AM
Yeah, you know the type, those guys that put masking tape all over the front panel with numbers, lines, etc. written all over them >:(
After x amount of years this tape is almost impossible to remove without scratching up the FP.
I have been very successful with this method.
Lay the masking taped item horizontally(tape up), apply a nice thick coating of a Lanolin based hand cleaner from a can(not the gritty stuff) to the masking tape then lay a piece of plastic wrap, plastic bag, etc. over it so it does'nt dry out.
Leave it sit for a day, next morning just wipe it off :D
I have not tried this on wrinkle finish, and sometimes it changes the paint color  so very slight but becomes normal in a day or so.
I have used this method dozens of times on radios, etc that no body would buy at fests ;)
Use this method at your own risk, try a small area first till you get comfortable with this method.

WD-40 works too! Under the plastic makes it work quicker.

I know it's late but this is what I use. It has the benefits of smelling like a fresh orange.
