Title: Re: WGN's Wally Phillips passes at 82 Post by: Jeff W9GY on March 30, 2008, 06:25:06 PM Wally was a class act. When I lived in Detroit, I thought J.P. McCarthy of WJR was the best on radio. That was until I moved to north-central Indiana and could get a decent daytime signal from WGN. AMfone - Dedicated to Amplitude Modulation on the Amateur Radio Bands
Wally Phillips was one of the first to make extensive use of the phone talking to his many listeners. Everyone was treated with respect and courtesy. Didn't need to get down in the gutter to create interest and a large audience. Sure missed him when he retired and left WGN, but Uncle Bobby helped fill the void until his untimely passing. However, Spike O'Dell does a quite credible job these days on WGN morning drive. RIP Wally Phillips, you are missed. |
