Title: Banned from eBay...why?
Post by: ve6pg on March 24, 2008, 11:29:47 PM
..ok, i've only ever purchased one item from ebay...an eico 720, back in november.....
recently i wanted to bid on something else, tried to bid, but was told that i have a poor rating...hmmm...
upon further investigation, i find a posting from the guy i got the eico from, stating that i'm a " dead-beat, payment never received, and did not respond to emails "....so, i am blocked from bidding...
funny thing is, none of this is true.  i received the transmitter, payment was received, and i never had an email regarding this "situation"....
so, how/why is it possible for ebay to ban me, on a completely false report from the seller? is there no accountability, meaning he can say what he wants, and they believe him?...this whole thing was news to me..tim....sk...

Dont feel bad Tim, there sister company "PAYPAL" has put a hold on $1700.00 in my account and wont give it up. Says, "suspicious activity",  trying to direct it to my bank account. I have jumped thru there hoops, kissed there a$$ and now they want a photo ID. I learned a few years back, got along without them then, will get along without them now.
Regards,

Contact the seller via ebay messages, ask him why he put negative feedback on you, and ask him to retract the feedback. Or at least acknowledge in an eBay message (proof as far as ebay is concerned) that it is/was in error.

Possibly this seller was banned? Check that too.

Contact eBay and give them proof of your transaction and ask them to remove the negative feedback. Report any of the above too...

eBay has a DISPUTE button for this stuff too...

Then if that fails, make a new ebay account, your old one had only one transaction anyhow. Buy a few cheap things that you might want, and your rating will be ok...  ;D

Because eBay sucks.

Hi Tim,

I agree with Bear.  Get in touch with the seller, and ask him what's up.  If he says you stiffed him, provide proof that you've paid him.  I had the exact same thing happen to me 2 1/2 weeks ago on ePay.  I won the FM board that is used in in my ICOM IC-740 about 5 weeks ago.  I kept on wondering why it was taking the board so long to arrive.  The guy was located just north of Green Bay , and I live in the Milwaukee area, so shipping shouldn't have taken that long.  Also, I paid the guy within 2 hours of winning the board.

3 weeks after winning the board, I received an e-mail from the seller saying, "hey, where's my money?"  I politely informed him that because he wanted 5% sales tax (since we're both residents of the state of Wisconsin), I'd paid him directly via PayPal, instead of from PayPal Via eBay (which wouldn't account for sales tax).  I also told him the day I paid him, and that I'd also sent him a confirmation of payment e-mail (which I sent him a copy of to refresh his memory).  Within less than 2 hours, the guy replied to me, apologizing profusly, saying that he was swamped with sending out eBay sales during the week  I won the FM board (supposedly 175 sales), and he'd overlooked my e-mail, and he didn't recall getting an e-mail from PayPal, notifying him of a transfer of funds from my account to his, blah, blah, blah.  The guy also begged me to NOT give him negative feedback, shipped out my FM board that same day, and refunded me the shipping cost.

Until you have an established record Tim, it can be kinda tough. Folks tend not to be very understanding based on other ebay experiences with actual deadbeats - fair or not. Are you blocked from ebay entirely, or just that seller? Sounds like he confused your sale with another?

With the recent rule changes about leaving negative feedback and such, it's pretty clear that ebay has seen better days. Still a tool worth considering, but it makes the hamfest/flea market/personal sale/trade a whole lot more appealing. I've bought maybe 1-2 things on there in the last year and haven't sold anything in forever. The possibility of making a few extra $ just isn't worth the time, shipping, and other hassles involved, to me.

...well, here's the kicker... i was bidding on some seeds...nothing radio, and from a different seller anyway...the purchase was fer less than $3.00...i just dont understand how this can happen, when the sale went thru, etc...again, i never knew anything of this. there appears to be no accountability here, in as much as the seller got his money, shipped me the item, then turns around and says i'm a stiff, and ebay believes him...sk...

...there appears to be no accountability here

Welcome to ePay, the internet, the New-Age 21st Century, and so on. I got negative feedback on my very first sale despite having an honest description and clear photos. My mistake was leaving feedback for the buyer before he left it for me. When his attempt to blackmail me for a refund and the gear failed, he left me bad feedback. I posted a follow up, and he was later removed when others complained, but no doubt returned with a new user ID.

Their priority is to make money, not be fair. With millions of people using the site daily, there isn't much incentive for them to change. The latest rule changes reflect that. Use it judiciously, at your own peril.

Tim, as I said last night, if I see any jimson weeds growing at my place this summer, I'll harvest the seeds and send them to you.

Someone at ePay (Feebay) must think I am a terrorist or spy.  The site won't let me even view any postings for military radios.  But I can access them OK through my wife's user profile.

Boy This is weird, I got a notice that I am about to be banned as well. I am not sure why. I set a an E Pay account last year. I used it to purchase a special graphite plate 4-1000  Yep, a Y448. I paid the guy and no problem. I have not used the account in about a year. I don't know what I did but it was that wording " suspicious activity associated with your account" I cant seem to get a straight answer. Tim WA1HnyLR

I get e-mail notices almost every week about suspicious activity, temporary suspension of accounts, possible banishment, etc. on my ebay account, paypal accounts, bank accounts, viagra replenishment account, motorized scooter account, etc. Please click here to re-confirm your information, etc. They're all bogus.

You beat me to the punch Pete!

Those are phishing and scam e-mails.  I've got them already saying that I needed to update my account for security reasons. Click on the link below, yada, yada, yada.  Ebay told me 4 years ago, that they never send account stuff about security, being banned, etc., via e-mail. If you want to check it out.  Tim and Tim, here's a link eBay has for problems (like what seems to be the suspicious e-mails you both received):

  http://pages.ebay.com/securitycenter/reportproblem.html

I'd contact them via the stuff at this link, to confirm that you may have been spoofed.

I have received at least 20 of those spoof/phishing E-mails. I just forward them to spoof@paypal.com and PayPal usually confirms within 24 hours that the e-mails are bogus. These e-mails are on top of the panic notices that my bank account has been hijacked by suspicious green men from Uranus, etc. and you need to contact us immediately with your SSN and passwords....

With AOL I have multiple email accounts. One is strictly for Ebay the other is the radio side. I get the phish mail for ebay on the radio side all of the time and know it is bogus when it lands there. I rarely get Ebay phish on the Ebay side..odd!
Send the garbage to the Spoof@ebay or spoof@paypal and they will do whatever with it or maybe they hit the delete key and don't do anything.

I think in general that eBay has become a dictatorship. They have a PR problem with the general public. Just take a look at their drooping stock price over the past few year..............Best way to beat them is not to patronize them. I have been using other sites like Craigslist no hassle and its free!!

You see my stocks prices over the past year. Ebay is not alone in this arena. And, my understanding is that Ebay and Craiglist are already in a relationship. My own personal relationship with Ebay and Paypal on customer/seller issues have all been treated quickly and favorably for all parties.

As I recall the seller can refuse to automatically reject bids from people with a certain number or percentage of negatives. So it may not be an eBay policy blanket policy "agin " you
