Title: AM 80 Mod monitor remote meter
Post by: K9AF on February 05, 2008, 02:00:36 PM
Hi:
I have an AM 80  mod monitor, which works fine.  Noting in the instruction manual, and viewing the back panel, it has the ability to drive a remote meter.  It refers to a Gates remote metering panel, but gives no specification.  Can anyone make a recommendation as to a good choice for the full-scale reading and movement for this meter?  Many thanks.

Jerry, K9AF

perhaps take a general purpose DVM or similar and see what the output sends?
Likely it is DC.

Jerry,

I think that you'll find that the external meter required will most likely be unique to your specific mod monitor.

The meters used in modulation monitors have very carefully controlled ballistics so as to accurately respond to and display the peaks in the modulation waveform, and these ballistics are matched to the circuit driving the meter.

Probably your best bet is to hunt for the correct external meter on e-Bay, etc., or to find a junker AM-80 with a good meter, that you can remove for your purposes.
