Title: Restored 60 year old Stancor ST-203 A Transmitter Post by: wd8pcu on January 14, 2008, 01:21:21 PM Hello all,
Well I have got my ole " Stancor Chicago Lunchbox" up and running in excellent working order. This was the old 10 Meter AM Mobile Transmitter. Has a 2E26 Final , 6V6 Oscillator, Modulated by a Pair of 6V6'S in Push Pull, 6J5 Speech Amp. I will be on Ten Meters 29.000- 29.200 and will be set up as a base installation. I have an antique Sorenson variable power supply running it. For the real flavor I will be using the complete 3 deck 19 inch rack Behringer Model T series Digital Audio. My earpiece will be the Hammarlund Classic HQ 140 X with a VLF secret weapon style Selectivity Box. Passband Tuning etc. It sounds real good and has been on the air tested locally. This is certainly much more rugged than the "Heathkit Benton Harbour Lunchbox." Title: Re: Restored 60 year old Stancor ST-203 A Transmitter Post by: W9GT on January 14, 2008, 05:03:48 PM Hello,
I have one those Stancor transmitters also. I built a power supply for it and changed out the 6J5 for a 6SN7 to add an additional stage of audio for using a HiZ xtal mike (D-104, of course). I changed the tank circuit to 75 meters (Stancor issued a mod sheet giving values for putting it on other bands). I started with their recommended tank coil, but changed the output to a Pi-Net. Have used it on 75M. Got great reports..runs 12-15 watts output..Good audio and lots of fun for a PW rig. 73, Jack, W9GT Title: Re: Restored 60 year old Stancor ST-203 A Transmitter Post by: W1UJR on January 14, 2008, 05:38:37 PM Hi Dan, AMfone - Dedicated to Amplitude Modulation on the Amateur Radio Bands
Congrats on the Stancor! Its always great to see someone bringing back on the old gear. Do you know about the Boatanchor Manual Archive, found a link to your rig here -> http://bama.edebris.com/manuals/stancor/ I'm not too familar with that transmitter, can you operate on any other bands than 10 meters? Would be delighted to arrange a sked on 40 or higher bands. Or perhaps we'll see a 10 meter opening soon, I saw that someone had posted such on the board a few days back. -Bruce |
