As opposed to "over there"  - where ever that may be.

2 Meter AM frequencies seem to be geographical (see http://www.amwindow.org/freq.htm (http://www.amwindow.org/freq.htm))

I've also heard a few guys in metro NY/NJ operating on 144.27 MHz The new OSCAR subband is now between 144.3 and 144.5 MHz. Beacons are between 144.275 and 144.3.
Our next charge should be to get the ARRL to change the ARRL band Plan for 2 Meters. It presently states 144.200 to 144.275 MHz - General SSB Operation. It should be changed to "General Phone Operation".

Sure, why not.  Most of us who do 2m SSB & CW don't go much above 144.230 most of the time.  Even during contests, only a few go higher than that (such as rovers).  What would be even better yet, is 144.110-144.170.  Hardly anybody operates in that range.

What ever happened to 145.8? Wasn't that the "standard" AM frequency for ever and ever?

145.8 MHz - start of the QSCAR subband - lots of activity there but all antennas are pointed to the heavens.
AMfone - Dedicated to Amplitude Modulation on the Amateur Radio Bands
