Title: So, whats the deal with the guy with the Blackwater shirt in the arrl ads?
Post by: kf6pqt on October 08, 2007, 01:46:09 AM
Anybody know the story? I'm curious to hear it.

Whats the Blackwater-ARRL connection?

I'll try and dig up and example picture, or I can scan one of the pages out of one of my QST's.

Found it, August 2007 QST page 136.

ARRL, Blackwater, and Visa, all in collusion! ;)

They've been running these exact ads with this guy for at least a year or so.

W4QLD  does not show up in the FCC database according to QRZ.com. Interesting.

Actually... that badge looks a bit photoshopped to me.

That's ARRL Assistant Emergency Coordinator, Greg Terranova, N4QLD.

There's no conspiracy here. He also appeared on the cover of the 2003 Annual Report.
I have lots of T-Shirts from places I never worked at:

It's part of the "New World Order".
Didn't you get the memo?

Don't forget the coversheets on your TPS reports.

W4QLD  does not show up in the FCC database according to QRZ.com. Interesting.

Why would you go to
QRZ.com, to try to get trustworthy callsign info?

I sure don't.... if I want to know if someone has an FCC issued license, I go to the FCC database....

In this case, there is no W4QLD in the FCC dbase either.....

Just mention it because so many folks think that QRZ is THE place to get callsign info....
My opinion is, that it is NOT.
The only way to get trustworthy info, is from the source.....

There are a LOT of hams that are licensed, but QRZ.com does not show them as existing...or does not get the update when folks upgrade.

The QRZ call sign look up database can be useful for International calls.

Or you call is not listed because the owner of the site has some personal beef with a particular licensee.

I find Buckmaster better for International calls.

QRZ.com exists for entertainment purposes only.

Yeah...got those coversheets covered, but beware if you are issued a red stapler!  OTOH things are quieter in the basement.

I remember they "delisted" K1MAN.  They also delisted Kevin WB4AIO.

But K1MAN's data is now back up.  Kevin is still unlisted, but there is a link to his entry in the FCC data base.
