Title: Transformer Question
Post by: Dan N3SMF on October 04, 2007, 01:45:14 AM
Hi all.. I have a hunk of iron here and was wondering if it could be useful in a rig project. The iron is some kind of control transformer with a 2400v primary and a 120V secondary. I am under the assumption that transformers can be run "backwards" in certain applications, and I have done it in audio and small power applications.  If this is the case it might be a prospect for a future project. Am I assuming wrong or are there any other limitations that need concern me?  Further specs on the tag say it is rated a 5kva 60cycles continueous..any input will be appreciated.  Thanks  Dan

Hookd up backwards with a full wave bridge rectifier, it would make a nice plate transformer for a leanyour or HB rig. Using the T.I.T. formula (10w per lb) it should be good for at least 500w or better.
