Here's what came out... yes, I know, some of that must go back in.... It was in the way!  I still would like to try to remove the speech amp as a single unit, (to re-cap) but that will be a tad difficult.

How best to test the mod tranny?  Any links to how to build a hi-pot tester?  I tested a lot of that in college, but I think my certifications have long since expired.

Finding a place on the back panel for TWO fuseholders is gonna be a pain...

Jason,
Lookz like you are starting out on the right direction. I can see where one of the leads from the mod tranny zorched to the chassis. When you reassemble the modder, be very careful to dress those leads very carefully. They are the most likely places to have a zorch out on a rig like that.

Be sure to slip some spaghetti tubing over them and or also some heat shrink tube as well. Several layers are better.

the 2 leads that go to the modder plates and especially the lead that goes from the mod tranny secondary to the pa are always prone to zorch overs. Dont forget that the lead that carries the modulated HV from the mod tranny to the pa plate is swinging from 0-1600v with modulation. That guy is the most likely of all to flash ova.

I noticed that one of those mod-tube plate leads MAY have in fact zorched open... which would explain my perceived downward modulation.

Either way, it was a mongolian clusterf... in there, and needed to be cleaned out.

Its a DX-100, not a BC xmitter... I'll be very pleased if it "just" sounds like a DX-100. ;)
