Title: Road Trip Planned - NH to Three Land
Post by: WA1HZK on May 03, 2007, 08:05:18 PM
Brent & I are taking the "Brent & Keith Show" on the road. Over the winter there were several offers of "AM STUFF" made by gracious three landers and we are planning a snatch, visit and run to N3IBX, W3JN, K3MSB, AB3EL and maybe some others. I'm mentioning this so if you have stuff that needs transportation to three land or be picked up in down there & dragged north, please let me know. I figure this trip will build at least three more big rigs by fall and that's the name of the game. I have a bunch of guys up here in the frozen tundra that would give warm homes to any surplus BC rigs heading for Dipsy Dumpster Land. Don't let this happen! Just notify the "Brent & Keith Show" and we will arrange a similiar rescue.
Thank You
Thank You Very Much
Ca'mon

Hi Keith,

Have fun picking up the radio goodies, and playing Santa for others during your trip.  As for you living in the frozen tundra - are you sure about that?  Remember I live in Wisconsin.  WE'RE supposed to have all of the frozen tundra.   I grew up only 35 miles from the home of the almighty Packers - the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field. ;)

Lemme know when you're planning this, you're welcome to stay at my place.  I'm about 30 mi west of Baltimore just off I-70.  I'm eager for Brent to benefit from that heavyassed power supply in my garage ;D

BTW the Manasses, VA hamfest is the first weekend in June, on a sunday.  A fine Business fester indeed!

Looks like this will go down Friday 18th and Saturday 19th with Sunday, 20th in reserve. I'll be contacting all parties involved this week. Like I said, anybody needing to transport Iron etc. should get ahold of me. We are also looking for any salvagable transmitters with STRAP potential. I have people looking for STRAP and they promise to get the things running on AM!!! What more can we ask....

Hitch up the mule. The last one I moved was a 5KW so yours should not be too bad. I'll bring a 2-wheeler and lots of straps & tarps.

You're not going to get from Joe's place to mine in 2 hours on a Friday afternoon during rush hour!!

I've made numerous sojourns to the Vortex during that time of the day. The traffic coming out of Philadelphia isn't too bad at rush hour. Remember you will be about 20 miles north of the city so it becomes pretty thin then.

Any locals that can be available late Friday afternoon at Marks place to help with the loading of the BC rig would be greatly appreciated. There's just me & Tina showing up to get it and he's got a bum back.
Thanks

I have a 2-wheeler and am going out later to borrow some moving blankets and a come-along. With 4 guys after you get home that should be no problem. We will shoot for late afternoon.

I arrived at Joe's about 2 p.m. and met Keith and Brent.  Soon a few more AM'ers arrived.

Some photos:

1. The Pony Express Trailer.  Note the 5.9 kVA modulation transformer just forward of the right tire.

2. The broadcash transmitter on the left side of the trailer.

3. Group picture - Terry N3GTE, Keith WA1HZK, Ken W2DTC, Joe N3IBX, Steve WA2DTW, and Brent W1IA.

Terry N3GTE, Keith WA1HZK, Ken W2DTC, Steve WA2DTW, and Brent W1IA; Many thanks for stopping by and for being the "AM Pony Express" for many destinations from Maine to Maryland.

Keith, WA1HZK, it was a pleasure meeting you for the first time, and hope you can stop over again and get the "plate transformer with headroom" out of my basement shack.

Tom,Ken,Brent, looking forward to seeing the pics from all of your visits today!

A good time was had by all, and I got Brent-Tina to operate a tube rig on 75M - hi!

Very Best Regards,

Was great to see Brent and Keith... they picked up an assortment of heavy iron from Fran W3SCC destined for the shacks of K1KW, WA1HLR, and KC2IFR.  Plus a 200 pound veriable regulated supply for Brent's Class E work from me which I was VERY happy to see go down the road.

Of course everything in my shack works 100% FB when I'm alone but I had multiple issues when demoing to Brent and Keith -  was getting a huge amount of backwave from my sig gen for some reason, then I hooked up the GPT-750s internal VFO and that didn't work for some reason.  Finally hooked up the FT-1000 ricebox and there was arcage (wchich I found was my putting on the PL-259 on the linear in haste).

Hope ya'll come back for a little longer next time!

Great To See YOU!
Thanks for the acommodations and great company. The road show was excellent. Keith and I got back to southern NH about 12:30p.m. after dropping off a mod tranny to Chuck's in Bolton, Mass.

One road trip and ready for another out to Rochester, NY next weekend.

Now we have to find some strong people to help unload the iron. Arrgh! I think the monster mod tranny may become a permanent part of the landscape trailer.

I'm tired but we did it. The RCA is platted firmly at the station of W1ASS. A fitting location for this fine transmitter. Many thanks to all the people that showed up to meet us along the way. I'm stunned at the amount of boat anchors in the Vortex. I'll be posting those pictures of the Vortex museum as soon as possible. Let us know when the next BC rig becomes available that doesn't get sucked into the Vortex and we will be buy again. I definatly need to spend some more time down there next trip. Brent has been twisting my arm to make the Fester down there and that's definatly on the list. I'm still thinking about Rochester so maybe I'll see some of you guys next weekend.
Thanks Again and I'll post pictures of the RCA conversion as it goes down at the ASS man's shack.
Keith
