The C37 lacquer on the beech wood and bronze made a huge differnce. The sound became much more open and free flowing with a nice improvement in resolution. Dynamics are better and overall naturalness is improved. I love listening to the Macaroni net now. If you change out the VFO knob, they'll eliminate any drift you may have had before also. They can be ordered with a special 'carved in' product detector if you want one for the BFO. Actually all knobs should be removed from all critical freq. capacitors and/or volume/band pass potentiometers. Everybody knows that's why slotted and lockable shafts were invented. All my gear is nothing but slotted shafts and a wise old ham once told me, "Mr. EX 3YPI, you'd get way better alignment if you'd cut off all your screwdrivers right at the shaft." So I did and the S/N ratio has improved markedly. No oxycotten conductor/insulator problems either. |
