Title: HPSDR GANG
Post by: WA1GFZ on February 19, 2007, 09:37:59 AM
The HPSDR gang is collecting a list of people interested in their first two operational boards. The function of these two modules will be similar to the best sound card you can buy. It will interface to the computer over USB.
Coming up will be "Mercury" a direct A/D input from your antenna.

These modules can be purchased built and tested...life is short I prefer to get them working rather than taking the chance of blowing out parts as they are built.

now thats cool. connect a box to your usb port, connect an antenna
to your box and voila - radio time!

Dean,
The first two boards will act like a sound card and make a great interface to an SDR 1000. I'm looking for better performance myself.
Mercury will be out later this spring.
The Atlas motherboard will hold 6 modules and can be purchased from TAPR.
I have a nice Cubic tunable preselector that I hope to interface to the system.
This stuff will force me to get into software or become a beach bum.

I-Q demodulation into two audio channels for further processing is the way for amateurs to go in 2007.  When multi-MHz 24-bit A-D gets cheap, then that will be the way to go.  Until then...  we haven't yet seen ten percent of what good I-Q demodulator feeding into a good sound card can do.  Hey, I hope these units are good down to DC.

TAPR just posted the new boards this afternoon. About $300 plus another $20 for the motherboard. I hear it will improve the performance of the SDR1000
The price is a lot cheaper if you want to build your own and find the parts.

Dean,
Not a full RX until the third board comes out. The present has been tested with SDR1000 with improved performance . The third board attempts a step into the future. This set up has a user parallel poart that I hope to use as an interface to my Cubic tunable preselector
It is a 1 U rack tunes in 10 KHz steps. I also have the preselector  module from a Cubic R3150 my dream RX.
