Title: Johnson Cap DUH?? Post by: KB2WIG on January 15, 2007, 11:24:08 AM As seen on EPAY
Johnson VariCap.... I've never seen one like this. Is this 'normal' or home brew?? the listing number 300069741875 Title: Re: Johnson Cap DUH?? Post by: n3lrx on January 15, 2007, 12:32:19 PM I've seen them before. It's actually 3 section cap..
The bottom is one cap, the top 2 are seperated. It's also a differential I think that's what they call it. Title: Re: Johnson Cap DUH?? Post by: WA1GFZ on January 16, 2007, 11:01:36 AM Looks like the loading cap from a Johnson KV match box. Dual differential.
Title: Re: Johnson Cap DUH?? Post by: Ralph W3GL on January 16, 2007, 08:06:54 PM No, it is not a "loading" cap... It's the MATCHING cap from the little 275 watt scratch box Dual differential thingy with that fiber coupling on the rotor shaft that is prone to develop a carbon track if you don't use the box correctly... If you get one flashover there, your done till you replace that coupling...Of yeah, the controls on the match box are "Tuning" & "Matching"...

Title: Re: Johnson Cap DUH?? Post by: KB2WIG on January 16, 2007, 09:00:15 PM Thanks all.... it just lookss so JS'ed that I had to ask. The fiber coupling - just wierd in respect to isolation of the shafts. How to insure the shafts are seperated from each other? Looks like a setup for 'spark gap' inside the coupling. klc AMfone - Dedicated to Amplitude Modulation on the Amateur Radio Bands
