Hi All:

I was listening to the Salvation Army Team Emergenct Radio Net (SATERN) traffic net on 14.265 USB. They stated they are also using 3.873 (within the AM window!) and 3.935mc for Katrina health and welfare traffic.

I tuned to 3.873 for the Western Gulf ARES Emergency Net and heard an AM station there.

So I think we should vacate 3.873mc TFN.

I wonder how Sandy, W5TVW made out.  He used to be active on AM, but  lately has stuck mostly to CW, using old tyme rigs.  I have worked him using both modes.

He quit running AM because he said he was disgusted with the overall situation on 75m fone.  Look up his call on QRZ.com for bio and photo.

Now on 7290, 7295 and briefly using 7298.

I know Sandy, W5TVW. Bought an NC303 rx from him in the 1980's.

He moved to the North shore. I would think he suffered extensive damage.

Thanks for the tip on SATERN Dan. My Mom, Brother and family live in Biloxi and the last I heard from them was Sunday night, they didn't evacuate, needless to say I am worried sick.

Hi Dan;

After trying for 5 days, I finally got through to my brother (another Dan) last night about 9:30pm on his cell phone. He and his wife and son are ok. :D They were leaving MS on their way to Atlanta where he has some temp work for a few days. His house in Diberville MS (very close to the coast!) was ok. I would have thought it would be destroyed for sure, it's a two story tinderbox, low cost build. He said there was a brick house very close by that was completely demolished. My Mother is also ok, her apartment (brick and wood construction) is ok, she has plenty of food and bottled water. Prayers of thanks were transmitted from the NY4NC QTH last night.

Thanks again for the links Dan, WLOX.com seemed to provide the most direct news information into the Biloxi area.

For the past five days I've been watching the major news networks on TV and online, quite ticked-off that most of them were only interested in showing horific scenes from places like Waveland where everything was deystroyed giving viewers the impression that is was like that everywhere. There was an online article from one of the local papers that mentioned not to be alarmed by what you are seeing on the major news networks, that the majority of the people in the Biloxi Gulfport area are alive and well.

Unfortunately, I don't think the same thing can be said for the people in New Orleans. Here it is Friday and they're still waiting for food and water from the Govt. Everyone wants to know what is taking so long? Someone mentioned, if this had been an attack on American soil, the response would have been immediate.

I wonder if W5SUM Ronnie made it OK.

Hi:

I am missing a friend Charlie WD5BJT. His house in Waveland/Bay St. louis is gone and we have not heard from him since Saturday.

I called Harold Kramer at the ARRL left a message begging him to set up a web page for Katrina on ARRL.net with links to the Gulf division NTS and ARES and forms for health and welfare requests simelar to SATERN.

The ARRL could have better pages that actually help communicators than the "human interest" crap stories they have now.

Two days ago I called the Boston Red Cross to request a health and welfare message, and they said they were not set up for that. They said they were taking messages for immediate life threats and mental health. Yesterday they opened a phone number. And they handle emergencies all the time!

Just as good as FEMA and Shrub.

Remember after 9/11 how the Red Cross put donations into their general funds for things like computers and such, instead of giving the money to the needed people. I will be giving my $$ to Salvation Army.
