Title: This Heat is Hot Post by: W1RKW on July 27, 2005, 03:04:06 PM It's hot out. My AC crapped out Monday night. Waiting for a motor-run capacitor for the compressor.
Last night I went out to by a $10 window fan at CVS. Figured I could cool down the bedroom during the evening hours. Got the fan in and running. The room started to cool down. Hopped into bed and 5 minutes later the power goes out, no more fan. Was thinking of using something from the junk box but don't have anything like an AC capacitor especially something in the 40uf 440VAC range. I'd like to kick this thing off and cool down the house until the replacement arrives but I don't want to kill the compressor either horsing around with it. Oh what joy it is to sit in front of the computer sweating like a pig and swilling Budweiser. It's 96-97 degrees here today with extreme humidity. Still waiting for those "cooling thunderstorms" to arrive but they never seem to show up. SAupposed to be much nicer the rest of the week into the weekend so I guess somethings heding our way. Otherwise this heat is brutal.

Thank goodness for air conditioning. I am keeping my air conditioner at 74 degrees day and night and thus far bills have been around 175.00 per month. That even includes my boatanchors. I'm swimming in moisture when I go outside. I'm staying at my business, the 1860s Cape is just too darn hot. some spots are in the 120's back home! I can make the case, snow birding can save you bux. I'd be shelling out $200 a month in az for the summer. no AC needed here in VT, no real heat needed in AZ for the winter - plane flights paid for!!! but it sure gets soggy humid hot here. as to the heat, ur best to keep your ac temp up. ie 78 degrees instead of 68. its the heat change that can mess you up. I worked in an office that kept it at 68. getting out at 5, it made me sick to my stomach facing the 98 degrees! then moved to another office, where the ac wasn't as good, we were at 80-85. getting out of work was ok, I could deal with the heat. Still a little snow in patches and the cool air coming down from the snow covered Little Brother mountain was refreshing. Did about 11 miles on the Obsidian trail, dogs were barking when I got back to the car at 6 PM.
Too sore to stop for diner and a 807 on the way home. Today its kill the pain with ibuprofen and stay in out of the heat, couldn't carry a pack if a gun were pointed at my head. Got it back up to 10 feet today. Waiting for my ant. tree climbing guy to put it back up at 60 feet where it belongs. Meantime I'm limiting my power to the Globe Champ at 125 watts.

I may have to wait until autumn. The coax fed 160m ant is okay as is the E/W ladderline fed dipole for 40m - up. As I type this I feel that I'm getting smarter. The temp is coming down. Just installed the new motor run cap on the compressor and the house inside temp is dropping. Ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
