Or you can go out during the night hours and stare aimlessly at the night sky. Whatever rocks your boat. Perseids are especially known for their fireballs, larger bursts of light and color that can last longer than an average meteor streak. This year's meteor shower will bring a major advantage for sky-watchers. A new moon will coincide with the shower's peak, providing dark skies and excellent viewing conditions before the sun rises. Title: Re: Perseid Meteor Showers Post by: KD1SH on August 09, 2026, 01:40:31 PM It wouldn't have been the Perseids, because the trees were naked, but a number of years ago I was out taking a walk through the neighborhood, well after dark, and suddenly there was a brilliant green flood of light from overhead, bright enough so the trees cast shadows, and those shadows were doing a sped-up sundial imitation all around me as the meteor moved across the sky. Very cool!

Very cool! It could have been the Green Lantern flying through the air or a bunch of Lantern Men policing the galaxy. |
