Title: Thanks to Steve! Post by: W1DAN on December 18, 2025, 09:18:57 AM Hi:
A thanks to Steve WA1QIX for all his design work and personal assistance to all the hams who built Class E transmitters (including me)! Dan W1DAN Title: Re: Thanks to Steve! Post by: WB4AIO on January 01, 2026, 09:02:32 AM Steve's kindness extends to many areas of the hobby. AMfone - Dedicated to Amplitude Modulation on the Amateur Radio Bands
I remember when, as a teenage ham back in 1974, I was being criticized by a well-meaning older AMer (who was using a stock 75-A4 receiver) for having "too much bass" in my hi-fi modified BC-610E. Steve came to my defense, explaining that a wideband hi-fi receiver was necessary to appreciate my audio. He definitely prevented discouragement on my part and I have never forgotten the incident. Another time, in 2021, I had checked into an AM net and a couple of the stations there questioned my license status (false politically-motivated charges have caused the FCC to put my license into limbo for more than a decade, though I am still absolutely permitted to operate, and I choose not to be listed on QRZ.com). Steve chimed in quickly and emphasized that my legitimate status shouldn't be questioned. (This is something that stalwart AMers WA1HLR and W2JBL have also said. Thanks to all of you!) And, of course, Steve is one of the most astute engineering types in amateur radio, and has contributed by helping others advance their knowledge of the radio art countless times. And he is devoted to good fidelity amateur AM, and as such has added something unusually beautiful to this world. |
