Title: Possibly Driver transmitter? Post by: AG5UM on October 17, 2025, 12:00:38 AM Well,
....While dreaming of Big Iron RCA, Westinghouse big tube legal limit AM transmitters.... I brought home a vey nice, fully working, Hallicrafters HT-40...screen grid modulation interesting little transmitter... From a recent HamFest. So, If....I could find the HT-41, and the correct VFO.... Anyway, Guys would this nice little transmitter work well as a driver amp for a big tube Amp?? I like this little transmitter, any comments from those with much more experience than me? These days ...at least it.... IS.... a TUBE transmitter, it even has 6 meter AM and CW. Any comments Guys? 73 AG5UM Donnie. Title: Re: Possibly Driver transmitter? http://amfone.net/Amforum/index.php?topic=34555.0 https://www.wirelessgirl.net/Projects/AMTransmitters/HallicraftersHT40.html I've never owned an HT-40, but having had superb results applying the excellent DX-60 screen modulation improvements that Steve, WA1QIX, came up with, to my DX-60B, I'd be wondering if there's a way to apply those mods to the Ht-40. It's not the same circuit; the final PA tube isn't a 6146 as in the DX-60, but the modulator tube in both rigs is a 6DE7, so it might not be too rough. Of course, you could just maintain the controlled carrier, as designed, but Steve's DX-60 mod results in a rig with superb, nearly broadcast-quality audio. Post by: AG5UM on November 03, 2025, 12:06:50 AM Thanks  for these links, I have looked at a couple AMFone threads, very good and interesting as always. I think its fun and interesting that this transmitter used Television horizontal amp output tube, 6DQ5, Cool. I'm enjoying playing with a screen modulated transmitter for something different, I like this little transmitter, its working well. The 6146 tubes are great also, as you say, My DX-100 uses them, I like those also, a real classic. I need to get a VFO going for this one, I've just been using crystals with it so far. Anyway, thanks for the comments, I Hope AMfone comes back full time, I have'nt been getting on too much, sometimes it has shutdown while I was on here and left it "stuck", thats not fun, seems to be working good now though. Your DX-60 sounds like a great transmitter, great comments, AG5UM |
