Never seen one, read about one, and I don't recall any references in the usual vintage transmitter books. Title: Re: viking ranger 2 cdc rarity? Post by: Pete, WA2CWA on October 17, 2015, 04:16:16 PM It actually doesn't even make any sense. The Ranger II was manufactured from 1961 to 1965. "CD" mania was pretty much over. Does it have a cad plated chassis, PTT, over mod limiting circuit, wide band frequency coverage (no ham bands posted on the band switch) or is there just a CD sticker on it?

Not sure how the two would look much different otherwise. I have seen photos of them installed in racks and console arrangements back in the day, maybe one got separated from its case.

This is a Viking I (first picture). The Viking I uses a different type of cabinet from the Viking II (2nd picture-yours). The number of crystal sockets was common in all Viking II's. As I said this is new to me and I was thrown off by the case design -- which does,admittedly, have some similarities -- and I was looking at the "II" as a stylized "1" -- that's what being interested in font design will get you. Anyway, when I finish my current project I will get started on this. I looked over the manual today and it seems straightforward in design. Lots of cleaning and capacitor replacement in my future. I actually think my first order of business will have to be and build some new workbenches. Not sure I have enough space in my current shack for this along with my current lineup of equipment. |
