Went to a small swap in Fresno last weekend, the hills along Interstate 5 were surprisingly green and lots of wild flowers.

Don't be a wise guy, we're still freezing here in the east. ;D

Which east is that? Daffodils have been blooming for more than a week here. It was 75 degrees yesterday. Supposed to be 73 tomorrow and 82 on Friday.

Still have two foot drifts in the shade on our north sloping front side yard.  Most of the rest is gone.  Most year's I have already raked up all of the winter's deadwood from the  trees and run the mover at least once by now. My neighbor across the street will be mowing his south facing lawn before my last drifts are gone!  Our Lenten Rose on the south side of the house finally bloomed last week.  This is the first time ever in my memory that most of the lakes and ponds around here are still iced in during early April.

The poppies are California Poppies, the state flower, when I came up I-5 on Saturday they were all over the hills along with other wild flowers. When I was younger I back packed, for quite a few years I would take a 3 day hike into a wilderness area here in Alameda County in late March. It was quite lovely with all the wild flowers and could get cold, frosty, at night, we were camped one of the nights at 3,800 feet. Hard to believe that in an area as urbanized as the Bay Area such places exist.

I have two sisters in Massachusetts, both live in coastal towns near Plymouth, the winter has been horrid, they are sick of it. The last winter I spent in MA was in 1970, been back in the winter a number of times since then but as I got older that became less frequent and I have NO DESIRE to ever live in that weather again!!

I hope all my fellow AM enthusiasts in the Northeast was a nice Spring and an even better Summer to make up for the horrid Winter.

I am still waiting for the new Heathkit catalog to arrive.  I guess demand is so high that they are backed up at the printers.

Very nice remarks about the state flower Tom and I really agree with sentiments about Mass. Wx.

Um, Joe, you're allowed, even if it is now April 2nd. Well it is on this side of the meridian, but I realize ...
..Well let's just say my first thought was who in the Heck .was backing Heathkit with that kind of money?

You're either looking too hard or you're not old enough.

If it is the SSB FM article, that was obvious, however a proclaimed reprint. I had expected new content.

I think the April Fools article is in the May issue.
Alinco DX-10 = CRE8900 'export CB' apparently right to the board level. Hmmm... But it is cheap. There is apparently little difference between it and a host of '10 meter' radios the FCC has railed against for years. We'll see them on 11M, no doubt.

Also known as the Alinco DR-135DX:

What's the big deal; these type of rigs have been around since the 80 and 90's.

Only that the FCC rails against them, and the hamsheeple also make fun of such items. Those that don't candelstinely use them on 11M that is.

My first HF mobile rig was a 10 meter Uniden HR-2510 transceiver. Even Realistic had several different models just for 10 meters. Many of these rigs are still in use. Of course, then there are the many boatanchor transmitters that had an 11 meter position on the bandswitch. I don't see people making fun of those either.

The 2510 and rat shack models and old 11M-having ham sets were reputable sets and not railed against by the FCC. What was made fun of is that the FCC rails against the disreputable export CBs because they are supplied as 10 meter sets intended to be modified for CB use and that the DX-10 is the same design as the disreputable export CBs.

I've heard more CB-types on 75 meters than 10 meters.

that type will go to wherever it finds someone who will piss and moan when qrm starts .... a cry for attention ....

ignoring them cuts them off at the knees ....
