Title: Derb's Doppelganger
Post by: Steve - K4HX on March 26, 2014, 08:41:42 PM
Talked to this guy on 20 meters last night. Looks a bit like The Derb. Cool name too. I guess the pressure would be on to have a rock crushing signal with that name!

If the guy only had some black wrinkle panels with some round weston or triplett panel meters it would be a fit!

Well those modern radios are OK. I used to be fussy about it, and if someone didn't go for plate modulation, I thought it was wrong, but it was that idea that was wrong! It does not matter what the AM comes from except in my own shack. Give him some time and encouragement, maybe he will adopt a retro rig and fix it up, or even buy a working set from someone.

Once the AM bug bites, it's only a matter of time til some old iron moves in for a good percentage of hams.

So did you order a QSL card? I like that, selling QSL cards to contacts on the personal page is a way to get them through much faster and to assist the other fellow that never seems to have 50 cents for postage!

I think most of us go through that as we spend more time in AM specifically and radio in general. We get very enamored with our personal preference, etc. I figured out many years ago that the key is having someone on the other end to talk with who enjoys whatever they're using enough to get it on the air and use it. I can't see it and don't have to use it, so it is a moot point.

Steve, that guy looks like one PO'd Derb! But the resemblance is strong indeed. I still remember seeing Jackson Bob's double at Shelby a few years back. Fat Albert too!  :D

Talked to this guy on 10 meters tonight. Did K2PG move to a Pacific Island?

I don't know about Phil, but that guy could belong to the ZZ Top group!
