Title: new winter projects
Post by: iw5ci on August 24, 2013, 02:33:57 PM

What is better during the winter to heat up some new BA?

So i have got some new radios to play with this winter, i hope you will like them . They are basically in good working conditions, just need cleaning and to prepare cables, relay etc... to put them on the air.

1) hammarlund Superpro 400x (a couple of extra hole to deal with one equipped with dim light variable resistor) works really great with original PS.

2) Viking Ranger 2. This is in Mint conditions, really as new.

3) Hallicrafters S-20R (repainted by me with new decals)

follow.....

5) hammarlund HQ500 , really beautiful example of this rare TX.

6) Johnson Viking Courier. Works Great, i think i will just repaint the cabinet.

That's a variety allright. Be sure to post up any interesting news as you go! Does the courier have continuous tuning as implied by the Thunderbolt-esque dial?

Ahh, the Courier.

About 30 years ago I knew a doctor ham who owned a 3-500Z linear amp. It had a problem he couldn't fix, so axed me if I would take a look at it.  I agreed and he said he would send it over.

He called later and axed if his "courier" had arrived yet.  Not yet.    I said, "Oh, you're sending over a "Courier" too?  He said "yes, my courier will bring the linear."

At the time, I didn't know that the word "courier" meant messenger or someone who delivers something - I thought it was just the name to a Johnson rig.

I axed him how his "Courier" could possibly bring over a linear.   He started to get angry and kept repeating, " My courier, my courier, my courier - is bringing just the linear -  will be there soon."    "The courier's name is Emil."

I just said "OK" and let it go, totally confused...   Figgered he named his Johnson Courier "Emil".
