Strip it of wire and use it as a through the wall ceramic tube or as a standoff. Use it as a mount for a wire glitch fuse. Leaving the terminals on it might be handy. Clean it off and grind a wedge shaped hole in it near one end and make a whistle. Launch bottle rockets from it. Title: Re: What did you ruin today? Post by: KL7OF on November 30, 2012, 05:14:37 PM A 6J5 tube and it was my last one....Having trouble with a homebrew 160 meter VFO...the 6J5 was weak...Tested the VR 150 tube...OK..Looked in the Junk Box for another 6J5...Stuck it in the tube tester ...the filament voltage was on 50 from testing the VR tube...POP....Still looking for a 6J5

Post by: KA2DZT on December 01, 2012, 12:19:49 AM Best to mount high voltage power resistors on ceramic stand-offs. 4KV across one resistor may be a bit much. Better to use two resistors in series.
Last thing you would do is place one on other metal parts like you did. We'll let you slide this time, but don't make that mistake again. We may be forced to come to your QTH and remove all the tubes and fuses from your rigs. In some extreme cases even tear up your license. Fred Title: Re: What did you ruin today? Last one I got, loose in box, was broken cleanly in the middle. It clearly states in the manual that the higher the value, the finer the wire, and the less re-bar reinforcement you get for hoop strength.

That instigates another possible use for the dead resistor - if the lugs are still there, wrap some heavy wire and make a high current shunt. |
