Title: Vacuum Tubes........
Post by: RolandSWL on June 08, 2012, 01:43:15 PM
Hi All,

In anticipation of possibly needing to replace some tubes in the GSB-100, what are the preferred brands of the available N.O.S.?
Are there any brands to avoid?
Anyone have a good 6DQ5 they want to part with?

Thanks, Roland................

Any of the standard USA or European and Japanese brands are fine, even private labels are made by the big guys if you look at the code.

The thing to watch out for are the rebranders, slimeball imports these days using old names. Things like 12AX7, 5U4 and whatever else the audiophools crave can be highly suspect.

I'll likely miss a few but the good ones made pre 80's or so in no particular order are RCA, GE, Raytheon, Sylvania, Ken Rad, Tung Sol, National Union, CBS-Hytron, Rogers, WE for USA/Canadian receiving types.

Telefunken, Mullard, Hitachi, GE Ltd, Marconi, Northern Electric, Nippon, Philips, Toshiba for the imports.

Carl
