Title: 3885 @ 23:30 (CST) FEB 2
Post by: Opcom on February 03, 2011, 02:11:29 AM
I only went out to the building to fix the DSL, but thought to listen. Amazing what cold winter air must do at night.

KF5IIA----5x4
K4XK-----5x3
KN4ME----5x4 to 3x3 fading band issues but cleared up
WA1QIX---4x4
W0VMC---5x4

I heard you guys very well & apparently I can be heard somewhat too.

The band was up and down but when it was up it was very up. I still get a lot of QRM in the evening but late at night like 11PM it is not so bad. 75/80 may have to be a hoot-owl band for me.

Thanks for taking a break for me. I was a bit low on power only 200W carrier from a temporary lash-up station with a TS430 without processing, NCL-2000, & MFJ tuner but I hope it was OK. At least the knobs have stopped burning my fingers.

I got to get the R-390 out there and revert the ricebox to an exciter only, then I might have better reception.

Hey Patrick... isn't it great!!  All those stations also are powerhouse legal or near legal limit.  Great people too!  I'm in there now at 02:33 AM with the "Breakfast Club" including Frank WA3JBT, Jim N8ULN.  Jeff W0XV signed.  Brandon's (KF5IAA) voice was going south fast so he signed in order to try to save some for the "AM TRANSMITTER RALLY"

Now that will be a great time to join/listen... this weekend.  It's a work weekend for me but I'll get in there before and after work in the mornings and afternoons this weekend.

I listened to you and WA1HLR briefly last night. Brandon you had a great signal here to VA.

I heard Tim with a strong signal, but he was in SBE mode.  My sync detector folds and goes belly-up when I try to use it to hear the SBE; it can't stay locked on the signal. I have become so used to the sync that I rarely use the envelope detector, which requires the 6 kc/s mechanical filter when the band is even moderately crowded.  With the sync detector, I actually get better reception from a normal signal with the 8, unless there is extremely heavy QRM right next door.

I thought his old SBE, the MOPA BC-375, was much more effective for its intended purpose than the directly modulated oscillator he uses now. I think he lost the 375 in the fire.
