Title: Elecraft K3 Final Additions - 100 watt PA, 13 Kc filter, K3XVA Board Post by: W1UJR on January 25, 2011, 09:28:04 AM Elecraft K3 - Adding The KPA3 Internal 100 W Upgrade for K3/10
Think that this ties the ribbons on it. Added the 100 watt PA to the K3. Nice design, simple, bolts right right in. Had to remove the stickers from the rear of the fans, did not want to see "Made in China" on my new US radio. :-) (http://www.w1ujr.net/Bruce's%20Bench%202011/DSC_0201_small.JPG) (http://www.w1ujr.net/Bruce's%20Bench%202011/DSC_0211_small.JPG) (http://www.w1ujr.net/Bruce's%20Bench%202011/DSC_0236_small.JPG) (http://www.w1ujr.net/Bruce's%20Bench%202011/DSC_0231_small.JPG) Running the K3 Utility Calibration On the Macbook! How cool is this, software to run the RX and TX gain settings, set up the xtal filter matrix, and generally test the rig. You say this is probably the last addition, but according to the Elecraft reflector, it looks like the KPA-500 is just around the corner... ;D

Title: Re: Elecraft K3 Final Additions - 100 watt PA, 13 Kc filter, K3XVA Board Post by: WA1GFZ on January 26, 2011, 11:52:25 AM cool radio. I like the spectrum display option. I don't think you could fit a 500 watt heat sink in the box without lots of fan.
I bet the K4 or K5 will be really cool. Title: Re: Elecraft K3 Final Additions - 100 watt PA, 13 Kc filter, K3XVA Board Post by: N8UH on January 26, 2011, 12:00:31 PM The KPA500 is an external upgrade - I wonder how it'll do on AM ;D
Title: Re: Elecraft K3 Final Additions - 100 watt PA, 13 Kc filter, K3XVA Board Post by: W1UJR on January 26, 2011, 09:56:37 PM Yes, I see the chatter about the KPA500, interesting indeed.
Now, if Elecraft could box up the K3, the P3 spectrum scope, and the KPA500 in one box, well, that would be quite a rig! I thought they would put at least one 12AX7 in the audio chain for warmth? Nice radio indeed.

Pretty much uses the Kenwood command set with some K3 unique extensions. But if you're handy with a bit of programming you can press any button and twist any knob via software.
