First thing I noticed was that the vernier is not calibrated in frequency. How ignorant of me! :) So I set out to calibrate it. Using my (smug) Flex 5000 as a signal generator via a 30 dB attenuator @ 1 watt CW I wrote down the vernier readings vs KC. The results are in the Excel file I have uploaded. If you're interested take a look at it. The readings are for my SP 600. You will have to plug in the values of yours using an accurate sig gen. By way of explaination - look at the data tab. The first number is the minor division - so "3" = 75 KC "2" = 50 KC and so on. The next three numbers are the readings without the decimal of the vernier. Looking at the graph, you can get an approximate idea of where to set the vernier after starting down from 4,000 KC. The very first thing you hit is the third division - hence the "3" Hint - by clicking on the line you will see the actual data points and the actual values of X and Y.
