Title: Long Island NY. OTC electronic supply house still alive : )
Post by: Superhet66 on June 17, 2010, 08:30:27 PM
During Long Island's defense contractor and space program hay day LNL was smack dab in the middle of it on Robbins Lane in Syosset. They used to have an extensive tube selection and still may. I think least one fella there is radio savvy
( Lionel ). I don't think they are particularly inexpensive but having what you need right there is a big plus if your in the area.

Blah blah blah, I hope this helps someone  :)

They have a vacuum tube closeout, all tubes on the list $3.50, $25.00 minimum.

I noticed that the 7984 is on the list:

Might be something to look into..

Anybody use these VHF tubes on HF?

Had a dozen or more of these things new. Took some to Dayton last year and sold them for $3 or $5 each. Might still have some around here somewhere. They were, along with a lot of other 4 digit type tubes, part of an estate cleanup. Seem to remember some circuits floating around using them as HF finals.

Those were used in some of GE's VHF 2way mobile rigs and were a royal PITA to remove. I used to help a friend at his 2 way business and those tubes werent that long lived and really ran hot.

I suppose a pair could do a reliable 40-50W in a modulator or Class C final, more with some air.
