Title: Huge Collection of GE Ham News Now On-line Post by: Steve - WB3HUZ on April 25, 2010, 09:24:51 PM Some selected articles from the GE Ham News have been available on The AM Window for quite a few years. Now nearly all the issues are available on-line! This is great stuff. Thanks to Brian for doing this. Enjoy.

Hi everyone, Back in January I posted seven issues of GE Ham News on my web site as background material to my article in the AWA Journal on "Operation Crystal." The reaction to that posting of just seven issues was so enthusiastic that I was inspired to embark on a three-month project, scanning one issue of GE Ham News each day. Last Wednesday I finished and now some 90 issues are available as high-quality PDF documents. The URL is http://n4trb.com/AmateurRadio/GE_HamNews/ge_ham_news.htm For the most part, the originals are of good quality. A few have some handwritten notes and even some coffee cup stains. I mention this not by way of apology; but rather, I like the little hints that these publications once captured the attention of a fellow ham and I wonder what he (not much chance it was a "she" back then) would think to know that his coffee cup left a track that may be digitally preserved essentially forever.. I am missing a few issues: 3 within the span of my collection plus all of the first year (1947) along with all after 1962. If anyone has copies of these missing issues I'd be happy to scan and return their originals. I also have LOTS of duplicates. I'd be happy to trade a dupe for any missing issue. Please enjoy this offering! There's no need to immediately download the full collection, as my web site should be around for a long, long, time. I've had a web presence since the Internet was opened to the public and I'm not going anywhere. And please let me know if you find any errors with any of the links. It's been a lot of fun to take a good look at each issue; and I'm glad that I didn't rush and try to get them all scanned as quickly as possible (even if I had had the time). I'm amazed at the sophistication of the projects and I hope having these easily available will spark some discussion of specific projects! There are a couple of projects that I'd like to build myself along with a few that I can't imagine anyone actually trying to duplicate. Enjoy! 73, Brian N4TRB Title: Re: Huge Collection of GE Ham News Now On-line Post by: KE6DF on April 26, 2010, 10:40:25 AM Thanks. They look interesting.

Thanks! B. Title: Re: Huge Collection of GE Ham News Now On-line Post by: KA2QFX on May 06, 2010, 01:03:57 PM Thanks for the heads up Steve. And thanks to Brian for the nice scans and posting. Very interesting browsing material.

Hmmm, a thyratron switched power supply... where have I seem something like that before? Smiley Which issue was that in? I couldn't find it. Volume 1 Number 2 FG-17 Thyratrons give variable output and grid phased keying. I'm doing something similar for a Class E power supply using SCRs. Wonderful information. Thanks for posting them and thanks to Brian for taking the time to scan all of that material. I do have some issues around here and I will check to see if those issues are the ones Brian is missing. This is so good. Any way to put up a link on this forum so it won't sink out of sight with time? Al Title: Re: Huge Collection of GE Ham News Now On-line Post by: w3jn on May 10, 2010, 02:10:22 PM I'll move this to the Books and Literature forum in the Handbook section.
Title: Re: Huge Collection of GE Ham News Now On-line Post by: Ralph W3GL on May 10, 2010, 05:04:12 PM Al, Depending on the browser you are using, you can go to the url of the link and either "bookmark" or select the "favorates" and you have the url placed on your computer. Then you need not always go to AMFone to access the link... ( K.I.S.S. ! ) |
