Title: Anyone Know K2HNV ????
Post by: Carl WA1KPD on December 05, 2009, 02:51:33 PM
Bought a neat HB mobile rig off of ebay. The VFO dial is hand drawn and has the call K2HNV on it.

A web search does not come up with anything except that the call is available.
Anybody have an old call book or know of him?
Thanks and 73
Carl

Hi Carl, I did a search on this site (below) and found that the call sigh was issued to Donald W. Keller, New Hartford, NY in 1984 and it expired in 1994

That's a cool piece! Hope you find more info about the builder.

That "issue date" is probably more likely to be a renewal date. At
least it was when I ran my call through the database.

That would be a very old original call if it hadn't ever been reissued.

It is several light bulbs

Transmitter seems to be a single band version of "Twenty-Five Watts Under the Dash"
from Aug 1954 QST. A 2E26 modulated by a 1635

I have a 1953 or 54 handbook with a rig like that in. May be the same rig.

New Hartford, NY is near Utica.

Here is the URL for the Utica ham club, one of them may have a lead -->>http://www.uticaarc.org/

Googled the name, a Don Keller retired from the Utica School system after 29 years of service as the operations manager - sounds like a good job for ham. May or not be the same guy.

The fact the call has expired may not be a good sign, older hams usually kept their call active as a point of pride, they had to work quite hard to earn it, wonder if your friend may be a SK.

I did a birds eye view of 101 Davis Pl,13413 (from my 1979 callbook) and in one picture it looks like there was possibly a tower base in the center of the backyard in the direction of an out building.
