Title: 25 bucks. looks like a good speech amp/mod deck driver to me.
Post by: N3DRB The Derb on June 11, 2009, 03:53:38 PM
I think it's time to start thinking Derb homebrew again.

I can refurb this into a FB speech amp n audio driver deck.

black crackle: check.

matching crackle BUD enclosure ( gotta be blasted and refinished )

original 1930's homebrew: check.

All the matching late 30's Thordarson iron in there: check.

25 bucks: check.

I cant let this stuff alone.  ::)  Just one of those transformers would fetch 25 bux at a fest. All the metal work is done for me. It's dirty, so no one wants it, go figure. No one wants to work at it.

lotsa value for 25 bucks.

dont know what the output is yet.  i got it because it has all the power supply stuff of the right era. I'm betting it used a 5Z3 rectum-fier in that 4 pin ceramic socket.

I'll see what it comes with and start making plans based on what's in there. I'm hoping like hell the outpoot xfmr has a 500 ohm tap on it.

Damn!  At first glance I thought that was my old 807 modulator.  Same cabinet and same meter, but upon closer inspection I see the control knob is different and mine didn't have that live terminal strip on the front panel.  It used a pair of 807's in class B, zero-bias triode connected, using a single 6L6 as the audio driver.  Audio quality was no better than that of an Apache.

I let another ham have it back in the 70's.  Don't know what he did with it.

I'll be taking that term strip off pronto. Looks gay. Actually everything goes off right away and we'll decide what to throw and what to save.

here's the under side of it. All that old wiring will be scrapped and tossed.

it's got a 50 watt 50 K bleeder rx. That tells me that power xmfr has some scrote.

The xfmr in the front near the meter is the audio unit. cant say as I like his construction quality.
