Title: 122 VFO, NOT SHUTTING OFF... Post by: ve6pg on March 31, 2009, 09:31:45 AM ..ok...now the next problem, with my viker2...
...after i transmit with my viker/122 vfo, there is a huge zero-beat type carrier left on...in other words, the vfo is still running, and unless i turn it off, and then back on, the carrier is covering up who i am speaking with...why is this vfo still running like this, and how might i correct it?... ..tim.. ..sk.. Title: Re: 122 VFO, NOT SHUTTING OFF... Post by: W6TJK on March 31, 2009, 10:33:43 AM Go to the Edebris site and download the Johnson 122 manual.
Page 16 discusses keying of the VFO. Page 25 shows circuit diagram. Look at the cathode circuit just below the 6AU6. It shows a keying jack that is N.C. with no key inserted. The keying line is also carried to the xmtr via pin 8 of the rear-panel 8-pin socket. Pin 8 should be carried to the xmtr keying line. There is also a keying jack on back of 122 cabinet. If nothing plugged into the key jack, it will key the VFO by grounding the cathode. If key plugged in and depressed, it will key the VFO and the xmtr via pin 8. If a 1/4" phone plug with no contacts (open) is inserted in VFO, then the xmtr keying will operate both the VFO and the xmtr. or at least that is how I think it is supposed to work... Post by: W3NP on March 31, 2009, 11:04:48 AM ...after i transmit with my viker/122 vfo, there is a huge zero-beat type carrier left on...in other words, the vfo is still running, and unless i turn it off, and then back on I noticed you said that if you turn the VFO off and back on it is no longer keyed up. Does that Viking 2 have the sequential keying circuit in it? If it does, there is a keyer adjustment that may need to be tightened up a bit. The keyer tube turns on the VFO slightly ahead of the rest of the circuit and may not be releasing. Dave Title: Re: 122 VFO, NOT SHUTTING OFF... Post by: K9PNP on April 05, 2009, 10:27:39 PM If the Viking II and the 122 are both wired as originally made, the VFO will stay on in CW mode on receive regardless if the transmitter is keyed or not. In AM mode, it should not be keyed. Sounds like there were some modifications made someplace if this is not the case.
