If the FCC would have shut down BPL, the committee would have blasted them for hurting the ecomomy and not providing broadband access to the poor, underpriveledged rural people.
Martin may have been a poor manager, but Congress is only worse. Just look at the single-digit approval rating. Pot to kettle, over. Title: Re: FCC chairman blasted Post by: k4kyv on January 22, 2009, 12:59:16 PM But the Commission could have taken a more unbiased approach, to the effect that the stated goals of BPL would be in the public interest, and that the FCC would support BPL if and only if deployment could be achieved with ZERO degradation of shortwave radio reception on all frequencies used by military, commercial point-to-point, amateur and shortwave broadcasting.
Instead, under both Baby Powell and Martin, the Commission actively lead the cheers for BPL while ignoring if not suppressing physical evidence that proved beyond doubt that the proposed systems cause harmful interference. As far as Congress goes, expect them to follow the $$$$. And that's why the FCC did what they did. They got their marching orders from Congress to push BPL. Congress isn't interested in the FCC being unbiased, but rather being their pawns in making them money and helping them to get reelected. |
