Anyone else planning on playing SKN?
I plan to be on 40 with my Novice xmtr-  A Johnson Adventurer.
Not really Off Topic- Just consider it very lo level modulation.

Carl,  I'd orginally planned to be on but now tied up with the out-to-dinner/party thing and might find myself incapacitated by midnight. ::)  Seems like all these dinners and stuff get in the way of hamming.  Guess I'll just have to establish priorities.

I hope we're not abusing the 1x1 call system but I'd planned on using W8R even though I didn't sign up specifically for straight key night.  A different bunch will be receiving W8R so it might stir up some vitriol.

I don't have anything HB for SKN but I do have a rig that I made my first ever QSO with. I have a real nice HW-16 with matching HG-10B VFO. 35 Watts, loud & proud, (or 75 watts input according to the little red line)

News flash... ..

I  may  even attempt to make a few CW contacts if the wife is asleep when I get home at 1230 AM.

I have one too, but it one of the original MicaMold transmitters awaiting resurrection :)

I plan on putting a few vintage CW transmitters on the air with various straight keys.

I plan to be on 80 and 160 with my Hallicrafters SX-99 and Meissner 2-CW XMTR.

Hi Jerry - Your Meissner 2-CW sounded great! Nice signal with 10 watts.

Here is the setup I was using when working you - using the Brown Bros key with the red knob:

Good to hear a bunch of signals with manual keying tonite.
So far I've worked 9 states on 80 CW with the Viking Bud and the R4A.

Taking a break up in the ghetto then I'll be back on 80CW.

Broke out novice rcvr and xmtr from 68 at end of bad day

Found out BFO on rcvr had died. No obvious quick fix and bench is covered in 813 rig project.

Decided to feed 455 KHZ from bench sig gen for BFO. OK fine.

Fired up xmtr and went to hook up ant. Forgot that ant took RCA connection not pl 259 No adapter around.

Decided daylight would be a better time to face.

I don't even have a key.

Blast!  I completely forgot about SKN.  :(  I'll be on today.  I'm debating using the bug (SKN allows them), or my Bencher RJ-1.  This is the time I wish I'd hung on to my Ten Tec Century 21. It's perfect for this kind of operating, even if it has a DC receiver.

 P.S.,Got on 40 cw last night with a single 6AQ5(vfo controlled) with 10 watts out, and had a FB
 QSO with a W9 near Huntsville Alabama.--band was not too bad.
                                

when i first saw the post about SKN? i thought "hmmm... Silent Key Night"
which wouldnt really make much sense unless the band went dead  ;)

heheheh  - Yes, a new ham tradition to honor the dead.

Silent Key Night:   Old, departed QSO recordings are played back and forth all night.  The alive and well are not permitted to speak. Ham Radio "ghost talking" at its best.

If you listen to some QSO's these days, you would sooner listen to the dead, or you wish you were dead.

I didn't know that.  Otherwise, I might have participated.  I like sending with my bug, but using a plain old straight hand key gets old very fast.  Too much like work.

I need to get my Brunnel Sideswiper anchored down to something solid and get into practice using that.

Rene, thanks much for the generous offer; however, it would be sorely wasted upon the likes of me.  There is, after all, a reason I don't have a need for a key 'round here  ;)

Maybe someday I'll get the bug, so to speak, to use CW. 

What would be cooler than a SKN would be a "diddly diddly" night where ya hafta use an electromechanical teleprinter.  No computers allowed.  Oil up them Model 28s and start ticklin the green keys kind a thing.

Not such a bad idea!   Why not have a night where we bring back notable SK's, using their calls as "special event" stations?

SKN with spark, now that would be fun

How else would one have been transmitting on this years SKN other than King Spark.  ;)

Here's an idea....  Combine the old and new technologies for next year's SKN. 

Modulated CW.  Create a recording of an old rotary spark gap signal.   Either store it on tape, CD, or as a computer sound file.  Then modulate the AM transmitter (Preferably Class E) with the sound of the old spark signal.  Legal nostalgic station.  Would that fly through the aether?
