It was very strong into here all evening (noted about 0200 on past 0306 GMT).  Sends encrypted messages in 5-letter groups.  Each message preamble has a number, a time and a 1986 date, then they go into the 5-letter cipher groups.  It comes in very strongly on my northeast beverage, weaker on all other receiving antennas.

Added to my rain static, power line noise and thunderstorm QRN this evening,  the Ghetto was pretty much unusable. I contacted a station in TX on 3800, but finally  lost him in the bedlam.  I QSY'ed over and zero beated my carrier on the CW as the intruder kept on sending, but that didn't help otherwise shitty band condx.

This same station was on 3640 a few evenings ago, and another evening was noted on 3647.5, and a day or two later had QSY'ed to 3528.5.

This station was a recent topic of discussion on the CW Reflector:


Reported very strong in northeast US and eastern Canada.  The consensus is that the transmitter is located somewhere in the vicinity of NJ.

I have not caught them when they first come on the air, or had the patience to wait until they signed out to see if they transmit any kind of station ID.

But if they are of US origin, what in the hell are they doing inside the amateur band?  I thought that's what frequencies like the now-defunct proposed 60m band are supposed to be reserved for, precluding any further expansion of HF amateur allocations.

Maybe they are on a ship anchored just off the coast.

Funny that IRB would be mentioned but there almost always was a CW message, that wasn't very nice, running under the A.M. QSO's when IRB was on the air.

I hear gross body noises, and heavy burping, when Phil, K2PG is in QSO, at times.

there is also one at 7481 khz,evenings, sending 5 letter code groups, but not using any of the 4 character letters, l,p,q, etc. no id heard yet

And that darn Ecuadorian Time Station that straps in early mornings on 3810 Kc.

Yah, I heard it strapping into New England last night. I never heard it before, so I simply chalked it up to weird band conditions. Hope it doesn't show up there too frequenly!

Hmmmm, Midway Island's desalinator is kaput.  Those Brewster Buffaloes, and few F4Fs they have, are in for a rough ride when the A6Ms arrive.  Inform Yamamoto if this!

Heard the CW intruder...whatever it is...this morning on or around 3881 sending: EBS EBS EBS continually in beacon fashion.  Does that stand for Extreme B S or what?
