Title: Another One Bites The Dust - Radio Netherlands No Longer Beaming North America
Post by: W1UJR on September 19, 2008, 09:24:49 PM
Radio Netherlands Worldwide’s English broadcasts are available in North America in an increasing variety of different ways.

More and more partner stations are taking our programming (a growing number of NPR stations in the US and CBC in Canada) and there are now a variety of satellite options (including Sirius satellite radio).

The programmes are also available live, on-demand and via podcast.

Radio Netherlands now feels that the number of alternatives for listeners in North America is such that we have decided to end our shortwave broadcasts to the region.
This will take effect from the start of our winter season on 26 October 2008.

The decision has been backed up by a recent survey which showed a decline in the number of listeners using shortwave in North America.

I think that's a great loss to you, I would very much miss Radio Netherlands broadcast to downunder and I'm not even Dutch.
It just sounds so much better when its plucked direct off the ether.

The program material is just great on RN and they have a real big following worldwide,on short wave, they shouldn't ignore that.

I got to visit the site of EMR in May. Believe me they are still beaming NA and they are loud.

AMERICA

English     5975 49 0300-0400 EMR 500
English  (*)7325 41 0300-0359 SAC 250
English     6195 49 2200-2300 EMR 500

Serious antenna farm in the middle of a 5000 ft plateau. By the way 500 means 500,000 Watts.
