Title: Report on 2nd Annual AM Breakfast, Shady Maple Smorgasbord, East Earl, PA Post by: Tom WA3KLR on May 31, 2008, 03:41:47 PM I'm repeating this report here since the Announcements Section does not allow replys by other than the author.
Our second annual Saturday AM’ers breakfast May 31 8 a.m. at the Shady Maple Smorgasbord, East Earl PA was very good. This is north-east of Lancaster. We all dodged buggies and manure along the way. We had 7 AM’ers in attendance: Don W2DL Blaistown, NJ (Water Gap) Chuck W3FJJ Conowingo, Maryland Karl KD3CN Strasburg, Pa. Ralph W3GL, Delaware Bert WA3JYU Ercildoun, Pa Chuck WB3LGG Cochranville, Pa. Tom WA3KLR Quakertown, Pa. Who would have thunk of (me) having shoo-fly pie and soft vanilla ice cream for dessert with breakfast? Well we all had the vanilla ice cream, after the idea from Chuck. I am now thinking of meeting at Shady Maple twice a year – in May and in November. I am also thinking of having a Saturday breakfast get-together this summer yet, at the giant 250,000 square foot Cabela’s sporting goods store just off of the Hamburg exit 29B of I-78, about 20 minutes west of Allentown PA. I would like to hear from people interested in the Cabela's rendezvous this summer (say August). Below are 3 photos of today’s breakfast. Good food (yea, I had a little ice cream) and good fellowship made for a terrific Saturday morning. I would definitely be up for that twice a year. And a Cabela's rendezvous sounds good, especially if it attracts more AMers! Again, thanks for doing the leg work OM! regards, Karl KD3CN Title: Re: Report on 2nd Annual AM Breakfast, Shady Maple Smorgasbord, East Earl, PA Post by: Ralph W3GL on May 31, 2008, 06:01:45 PM Yeah, what he said, Tom... Look forward to the next one, I'm also be interested in Cabelllas 73, Chuck Title: Re: Report on 2nd Annual AM Breakfast, Shady Maple Smorgasbord, East Earl, PA Post by: Don, W2DL on June 02, 2008, 09:12:30 AM Tom - thanks again for setting this up, it was a great morning.
However, There is going to be a problem with Cabela's for breakfast - they don't serve it! I stopped there on the way back from the Saturday AM breakfast and on Saturday's the store opens at 8:00 AM, but the restaurant doesn't open until 10:00 +, and then for lunch or dinner only. It's a great place, but the hours might be a problem unless we all want to devote a big hunk out of the middle of the day to the get-together! 73 Don, W2DL Title: Re: Report on 2nd Annual AM Breakfast, Shady Maple Smorgasbord, East Earl, PA Post by: Tom WA3KLR on June 02, 2008, 01:19:37 PM Guys,
You're welcome. Don, Thanks for doing the research on the meals at Cabela's. I guess we'll have to make it a lunch there. I went very early in the morning one time with a ham friend and he had to have breakfast, but I was not hungry yet. So he went to the restaurant by himself as I roamed the store. Apparently he was able to get something. I ate lunch there that day after the buffet was set up for lunch. Plenty of lunch choices - custom sandwich, pre-made sandwiches and salads, pizza, platter line, buffet steam table, extra items, all kinds of beverages. Maybe a 10:30 a.m. meet time and roam the store a bit to accomodate late-comers, then eat, and then waddle around in the store some more until shopped out.
