Title: National NC-2-40C ...help
Post by: K8WBL on March 21, 2008, 12:03:25 AM
OK, picked up a beat up National NC-2-40C - no tubes - after digging and finding most all the tubes in my basement,  I come up short 2 tubes...here is the problem.  The schematics I can find state the the two tubes are a 6SN7 and a 6SL7 - both glass tubes.  But in those spots where they go there is those metal caps, like on the 6K8, at least there is a wire with the connector in both places.  I checked the NC-2-40D schematic as well, same...so...do I have an early NC-2-40C that uses metal tubes with the caps in those spots? If so, then they are not the same tubes I am guessing...any help out there?

Tim, your best bet is to sign on to the the National reflector board. They have all kinds of people that can answer your questions and there are few that even worked for National that get on the list. They were tons of help when I was wrestling with my HRO-50T. Check this URL out: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/national (http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/national) then subscribe. Once on, just ask with your questions. Gud luck.

Thanks MIke, I will do that...I also think I have figured it out.  Researched a bit more and found that the original National NC-200 used a 6C8 and a 6F8 in place where the NC-2-40C schematic shows the 6SL7 and the 6SN7.  found a couple and it works!!  Now going to clean her up good and align it.  So I guess I maybe got a very early NC-2-40C receiver.
