Title: I may just transmit....
Post by: W7SOE on August 29, 2007, 12:53:51 AM
OK,
I have been accumulating boatachnchors and threatening to use them for almost a year now.  A newbie, know-nothing, in this area, but bitten hard.  I have a basement filling with heavy iron and have yet to talk on the air.

Well enough just twiddling the equipment, it may be time to embarrass myself.  I have the JV II running and finally made a TR relay.  I have done an alignment on the R-388 and it seems to be working well enough though the dial reads 22KHz high on odd numbered bands.

I expect a 3870 crystal tomorrow from AF4K and so, I am running out of excuses.  I have a 7225 crystal and have been using that to "tune up" when I was fairly sure nobody was listening.

I have jury rigged an RF monitor to an older analog scope and kinda see where the JV II overmodulates, I think, maybe.  I never see the 130 mA on the MOD setting of the meter as described in the manual.

Ok This is a warning to those in the NW.  You may soon hear something new.  Maybe just a carrier, maybe garbled whatever, it may be tinny.  Whatever, you have been warned.

You no longer qualify as a newbie.

Jump in with both feet! Create the activity! Listening is always good for learning and the 'look before you leap' approach, but by the sounds - it's time to leap.

Hi Rich,

By now you must of heard the 3.870 group on 75 meters. They get on sometime after 3PM depending on band conditions. Real friendly group, jump in and say hello. Mac, W7JHS has a web site and a roster of the gang.

7.290 & 40 meters is fairly quiet most of the time, might hear Bruce, AB7YellowDog, if you give a holler. Try noon to 1PM for a CQ.

Join in on the fun,

Craig,

;D Hey! I'm in NW Montana, and am just about done with the audio mods to my apache, maybe we could set up a "newbie" sched! Good luck, and wish me the same.
