Title: How many dBs per bar
Post by: WA1GFZ on July 09, 2007, 02:51:37 PM
Anybody out there know if there is and S meter standards on a cell phone.
Our phone is dead or 1 bar inside the new QTH but full strap outside 4 bars I think. Foil backed foam insulation with metal tape over the joints makes for good shielding. Now I can put an antenna over the house and qro.

Frank,
I have the same problem here in Colchester.  One bar inside the house or no signal unless I go up to the 2nd floor to the bedroom that is on the west side of the house by a window and I might get a 3rd bar if I'm lucky.  Otherwise, I have to go outside to get a strong signal (3 bars).  Switching services didn't help either.

To answer your question on the meter.  It's probably arbitrary as far as I can tell.  It would be nice if the meter were calibrated and met some sort of standard

Hey Bob, I was thinking of you this morning as I went up 85 wondering which car was your's. I did jump on Rt11 though.
I save 30 miles of travel if I stay over on Sunday night. Too hot up North.

Look for a rusted out purple 94 Ford Ranger.  That's me.  You'll definitely know it's me if the front wheels are shimmying.  I need new ball joints.

I sent you a PM.
