I just got a Viking Valiant II. It Is a later production one with silver and gray panel. It also has aluminum knobs. There seem to be some crudely done circuit changes. Is the original circuit the same as the earlier Valiant? I seem to attract Valiants as I have 3 other ones!!

Marv,

Are you asking if the original schematic of your Valiant II the same as the earlier brown and gray Valiant? I'm not specifically familiar with the Valiant II, but I know that there were numerous revisions of the original Valiant schematic throughout its production run.

It would be wise to get a copy of a Valiant II manual and schematic if you want to return it to its original configuration.

You can download the manual here if you don't have one:

Changes?

As in variations in parts values?
Or modifications by previous owner(s)?

It would be a good idea to determine what the mods are, before going back
to "stock" - especially if they were for better audio or better performance.

WOAH, HOLD YOUR HORSES! Before you destroy a good transmitter please understand there are TWO versions of the grey face with aluminium knobs Valiant II. One is the "new and improved" version of the reddish brown with plastic knobs V2 (I like Nazi rockets, hi) and the other is a late production run where the 11M position on the band switch was replaced with a 6M position. That was a fairly simple mod, make the driver with 11M input a doubler and you have 6M output to the final grids. IIRC RF output is about 85W against 100W on other bands, circuit losses plus the 6146s are approaching the 60MHz limit.
