From several years ago.... a thread about improving the audio quality using a DX-60......     A schematic of a screen modulator was shown and someone replied :

And another that retains the controlled carrier.

What does "retains the controlled carrier" mean ?

I thought Screen Modulation did control the carrier.

I ask because W4RFM slipped a DX-60B in my trunk when I wasn't looking.

Hi Don.  Congrats on acquiring the DX60.  I highly recommend the mods by WA1QIX, though there are other designs also that "fix" the audio.

As to controlled carrier....run away from it. Smiley  Use real screen modulation and abandon any thoughts of using CC.  Screen modulation as I understand it should have no effect on carrier power.  CC does change carrier output ...at a price in distortion.  The change in actual power output is very little in reality. The better screen grid designs as mentioned, tightly control the DC feed to the RF amp. The DX60 can have excellent audio.  My DX60 took a lot of work to get hum and ripple cleaned up.
Cheers....
