Can anyone comment on what this is? I do not think it is a Seifert X-ray tube as the seller claims. Could it be a water jacket for a transmitting tube?

The translation "Vor Offnen Netzspannung absco" is "Before opening mains voltage..." - so it does not tell a story.

Ah yes a carbon pile phase detractor.  Haven't seen one in years.

Sure looks to be a socket for a water cooled tube.

Well the handle appears to be turned upside down. It pulls an unshown radiation hot alloy cylinder that needs to be cooled for excessive radiation, possibly a neutron source that is also damped by the hydrogen in water, similar to paraffin.  X-rays though? Got me?

Looks like a 24 pill Cree-Fet Solid-State grease gun. Wink

That’s the firing case for an Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator. Hope the modulator not still in it, or else Kaboom.

..Ever in search of a bath for my Machlett ML-892. It may be best as a display item but seems a shame not to use it.

Best guess is a water jacket but for what.. Any X-ray tube would not work too well with the anode covered that much. The idea of the radioactive slug is interesting from the aspect of a thermal generator but those use thermocouples. Mysterious German technology.

It may not be for the generation of anything, X-rays included, but for storage of a  radiation hot cylinder that would be excessively thermally hot without water cooling and  with suitable, hands off pullability.

To late now.  Grin

I have a Victoreen, the ion chamber model rather than the more expensive GM tube model.
Guess it didn't make any difference for your typical family exposed to several rads.
Nice meters though, -both models.

I keep a couple of Geiger tube units to check the meters on old radios. That's about the extent of it.
If the ion chamber one is going off, the problem is already serious. The reading can indicate how many hours or days one could wait before evacuating. Those are best for use after a serious incident of some sort rather than any kind of casual or hobby work. Might pay to send it off and have it checked and calibrated these days.
